5 out-of-the-ordinary proposals

The Carrefour international de théâtre is back with a complete edition and international productions. Ten indoor shows and two outdoor performances will be on this 22and edition which will be presented from May 26 to June 11. The details surrounding the new version of the event Where do you go when you sleep walking…? will be revealed on May 19. Here are five theatrical proposals that promise to be interesting.

White Out


In an all-white hotel room by the sea, a woman, faced with the disappearance of a loved one, experiences a loss of emotional bearings. The presence of a little girl will bring her back to life. Inspired by the novel The sickness of deathby Marguerite Duras, this creation by the Quebec company L’eau du bain is a show with light effects and video projections that shake up perceptions.

Not one of those people (Not One of These People)


Presented as a world premiere, the creation Not One of These People, by English playwright Martin Crimp and Quebecer Christian Lapointe, is a reading-performance that features the fictional faces of 299 characters. Faces generated by the hyperfaking process (deepfake) who will deliver a multiplicity of points of view expressed on social media. Martin Crimp will be on stage for an English performance on June 1 and Christian Lapointe will be featured in the French performances to follow on June 2 and 3.

Holoscenes


Performers, dancers and performers will go about their daily activities in a giant aquarium that will suddenly fill with 13,000 liters of water right in the middle of Place d’Youville. Installation Holoscenes, by the American Lars Jan, evokes, with the rising waters, climate change and our attitude to this growing threat. It’s free and it will be presented continuously for five hours.

The blue Hour


David Bouchard and Maxime Robin offer a contemporary adaptation of Hamlet of Shakespeare who embraces the codes of horror and fantasy. Eight actors will be part of this adventure which will unfold over six evenings, at dusk, in a wooded area. Millimetrik created the musical coating.

Tales and legends


The fascinating French playwright Joël Pommerat is back with a fifth creation. This time he approaches adolescence, in a show where young people will coexist with robots with a human appearance. A funny and moving work on the construction of oneself.
