459 million euros in compensation for the poultry sector are being deployed

Nearly 460 million euros in aid are deployed to compensate those affected by avian flu. This was announced by Marc Fesneau, Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, on Tuesday July 26, during questions to the government. The overall provisional envelope of the Ministry of Agriculture provides for 760 million euros “and to date 459 million euros are already committed or in the process of being”said the ministry to Agence France-Presse.

In the hemicycle, Marc Fesneau explained that “on the health component, 200 million are provided for in the PLFR (the amending finance bill for 2022) currently under review, and the need will be refined along the way by the end of the year once all the files have been submitted”.

“On the economic side, 26 million for 1,800 files for the South West and the North” are provided. For breeders of laying hens, an envelope of “2 million euros” is “being deployed”. For farmers in the Grand Ouest region, “86 million” euros are intended for them. A budget of “25 million euros” will go to “food companies”. “Finally, a special system on incubation will be open by the end of the summer, payments will begin at the end of the autumn, the total envelope allocated is more than 120 million euros”added the Minister of Agriculture.

The bird flu episode which began in November 2021 is particularly devastating, with 16 million poultry slaughtered. “Since 2015, this is the fourth successive episode” said Marc Fesneau. The Minister emphasizes that this episode affected “three times as many departments” and counted “eighteen times more homes”. The Minister of Agriculture must present an action plan Friday with the actors of the sector to improve the management of epizootics of avian influenza.
