45% jump in Telus profit

(Vancouver) Telus on Friday posted a net profit up 45% for its most recent quarter, as it welcomed more subscribers to its mobile and internet services.

The Vancouver telecommunications company earned a net profit of $498 million for its second quarter, up from $344 million for the same period a year earlier.

Earnings per share for the quarter ended June 30 were 34 cents, down from 25 cents in the second quarter a year ago.

Excluding one-time items, Telus posted adjusted earnings of $422 million, up more than 21% from $348 million in the same period last year.

The company said it enjoyed a net addition of 93,000 mobile subscribers and 34,000 internet subscribers during the quarter.

Its revenue was $4.4 billion in the second quarter, up 7% from $4.1 billion a year ago.
