42 deputies lacked the courage to increase their salary… Where were they?

On Tuesday, members of the National Assembly voted in favor of the bill to grant themselves a 30% salary increase.

At the end of the races, 68 MPs voted in favor of the bill while 15 elected officials voted against the wage hike.

Thus, after a little calculation, we see that 83 deputies were present during the vote. There were thus 42 elected officials missing from the Blue Salon at the time of the vote.

Where have you been ?

Family reasons

The minister sponsoring the bill, Simon Jolin-Barrette, was not present, his office mentioned that he had to leave for family reasons.

But, did the forty-two other chosen ones leave for the same kind of emergency?

A few elected officials were on the ground due to the forest fires, such as the regional minister for the North Shore, who has been in her part of the country for a few days.

But, were all the absent deputies managing the fires, right?

So where were they?

When you think you deserve a 30% raise, you have to at least have the courage to show up at the Blue Room and vote.

Dispiriting debate

The debate surrounding the salary of our elected officials has not shown us the best of our elected officials. Both at the CAQ and at Québec Solidaire, the deputies got involved in their boot laces.

When you hear the government whip say he works so hard and only sees his mother once a year, you know you’re getting screwed.

Despite the increase, the member will not be able to see his mother more, but at least she will have a bigger present at Christmas.

François Legault and Simon Jolin-Barette repeated several times that they had only put forward the independent report produced by two former elected officials.

In fact, the government should have done what Quebec has been doing for a long time, which is to leave the report on the shelf.
