A 28-year-old man lost his life in the Ville-Saint-Laurent borough in Montreal on Friday evening after being shot. This is number 41e homicide on the territory of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) in 2022.
According to our information, the backstory of this crime could be a settling of accounts related to street gangs.
The shots were heard around 8:10 p.m. Friday at the corner of Jules-Poitras and Deguire streets, in the borough of Saint-Laurent. This intersection in the northwest of the city is surrounded by a park, apartment buildings and a few industrial businesses.
The victim was found by the police in a car, confirms agent Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the SPVM. He was then alone in the vehicle, but the SPVM cannot confirm whether other people were with the victim at the time of the murder. A vehicle was also reportedly seen fleeing the scene.
The man, shot in the upper body, was first transported in critical condition to hospital before succumbing to his injuries a little later. He was unconscious on board the ambulance during his transfer to the hospital center.
He was known to the police and had a criminal record.
So it’s 41e murder to occur on SPVM territory in 2022. The scene that had been established in Saint-Laurent was lifted on Saturday morning, but the police are continuing their investigation into this file. Witnesses will be questioned and surveillance cameras will also be looked at, specifies agent Brabant. No arrests have been made so far.
