In Gentilly, in the Val-de-Marne, an association for the aid of migrants has taken over an empty building, doomed to destruction, to make it sleep 400 people without home. Most of them were dislodged by the police on Sunday, September 4.
Some held out until late afternoon, Sunday September 4, before giving up and leaving a disinfected building in Gentilly (Val-de-Marne). A building taken over by 400 migrants overnight from Saturday to Sunday. Men and women, sometimes with children, homeless. The building, slated for demolition, had been spotted upstream by an association for the aid of migrants.
The occupation ended in less than 24 hours. The police did not use force. But, according to volunteers, Doctors of the World could not enter the building. Migrants only accessed water and food once outside. According to the mayor of Gentilly, the women and children were well able to eat and be welcomed in the premises of the city. “These are temporary accommodations”, explains the mayor, Patricia Tordjman. Other towns in Val-de-Marne have also agreed to provide temporary accommodation for certain families.
