“The toll this morning is 40 [Français] dead and eight missing” in the Hamas attacks carried out on October 7, said Monday, November 6 on France Inter Élisabeth Borne. The Prime Minister adds that “among these missing people, there are certainly hostages”.

Élisabeth Borne maintains that the priority of the French government is their “release” and ensures that a “discussion is underway with the Israeli authorities and partners in the region.”

“France calls for a humanitarian truce to be able to deliver aid to civilian populations” on the Gaza Strip, also affirms the head of the executive. The Prime Minister once again condemns the Hamas attack on October 7, denouncing “acts of unthinkable barbarity”, showing “terrible images that remain in everyone’s memory”. But she also reminds us that “since then, the Israeli strikes [menées] on the Gaza Strip” did “thousands of deaths”.

Élisabeth Borne considers that Israel “has the right to defend itself, to ensure its survival in relation to a terrorist group that is Hamas […] but this defense of Israel must be done in compliance with international humanitarian law […] We cannot confuse the Palestinian people and the Palestinian group Hamas.”adds the Prime Minister.

Élisabeth Borne also says she hopes that a “political solution then takes precedence”. She believes that this solution will work “both for the security of Israel and as a response to Palestinian aspirations for statehood.”
