France plunged into torpor. Forty departments from the north to the south of the country are placed on orange alert by Météo-France on Monday, August 12, due to the heatwave.
The departments concerned are Côte-d’Or, Doubs, Jura, Saône-et-Loire, Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Loire, Ardèche, Ain, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Haute-Corse, Corse-du-Sud, Drôme, Isère, Rhône, Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Vaucluse, Oise, Aisne, Val-d’Oise, Seine-et-Marne, Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Paris, Eure-et-Loir, Loiret, Aube, Yonne, Nièvre, Cher, Loir-et-Cher, Indre-et-Loire, Indre, Seine-Saint-Denis, Hauts-de-Seine and Val-de-Marne.
The orange heatwave alert has been lifted for five departments: Charente-Maritime, Charente, Gironde, Landes and Gard.
On Sunday, temperatures were already very high across much of the country, with 41.4°C in Pissos (Landes), 39°C Lyon or 37.6°C Angoulême (Charente).
