While some previous records date back to the 1960s and 1970s, most date back to the early 2000s.

Mercury continues to panic. Several monthly heat records were broken on Monday September 12, Météo France reported on Twitter the same day. The organization has thus made a list “not limited” maximum recorded in several cities in the south-west of France. For example, it was 39.1°C in Mont-de-Marsan, where the previous record for the month of September was 37.1°C, on September 12, 2016.
As the readings were being checked on Monday afternoon, Météo France said a dozen heat records had been broken, mostly in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. In Dax (Landes), for example, he made 39°C, against 38°C on September 12, 2016. In Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the previous record dating from September 7, 1970 (36.3°C) was largely beaten with 39°C on Monday. While other cities further north are also affected, such as Saint-Nazaire or Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), it appears that no French region is spared from heat waves.
