The gendarmes discovered 38 migrants from Italy in a van, Friday September 9 around 11 a.m., at the rest area of ​​Isle-d’Abeau (Isère), located on the A43, learned this Saturday franceinfo with the gendarmes, confirming information from the Dauphine Libere.

The 38 illegal immigrants, all of Pakistani or Indian origin, were discovered during a check carried out by the motorized squad of La Verpillière. They were then driving in the direction of Lyon and had the objective of arriving in Paris.

At the time of the check, the driver of the van ran away. Suspected of being a smuggler, the man is still wanted this Saturday morning. In the back of the vehicle, the police found these 38 people standing and huddled together. They had not eaten or drunk since leaving Italy. According to the gendarmes, a woman and a few minors were in the back of the van.

The migrants were escorted to the offices of the gendarmerie, where traders and associations gave them food and drink. They were then released, with a safe conduct from the prefecture, according to the gendarmes. According to the same source, an investigation has been opened by the Bourgoin-Jallieu prosecutor’s office for “help with illegal residence”.
