350 personalities sign a forum calling for the union of “lefts and environmentalists”

Faced with the historic score of the National Rally in the European elections on Sunday, they believe that this is the only strategy to “counter” the extreme right “and open up hope for a better life.”

“We need a start! Now.” In an open forum relayed Monday June 10 in The world350 personalities called for union “leftists and ecologists” to prevent a victory for the extreme right during the early legislative elections which will be held on June 30 and July 7. “We have less than three weeks left to prevent the far right from ruling the country,” we read in this text published on a dedicated website, lunionmaintenant.fr, and open to new signatures. Only the union of leftists and environmentalists can counter this appalling prospect and open up hope for a better life.” we then read.

“United, the left and environmentalists have the means to be the leading political force in the next National Assembly. Separated, we open the way to power for the extreme right,” the text continues, calling for mobilization: “Citizens must get involved so that a dynamic of mobilization can emerge.”

Among the first 350 signatories are “personalities from the world of work, research and culture, activists and community activists”, allconvinced that victory is possible if we respond to urgent social expectations, if we defend solutions for life, ecology and the climate, if we promote feminist struggles, the fight against all racism, against the rejection of Muslims and anti-Semitism, against the stigmatization of migrants and sexual minorities and for respect, dignity and equality.”

The comic book author Pénélope Bagieux, the authors Pierre Lemaitre, Annie Ernaux and Marie Darrieussecq, actors and actresses such as Ariane Ascaride, Anna Mouglalis or Romane Bohringer… Beyond the world of culture, the text is signed by the environmental activists Camille Etienne and Cyril Dion, the Nobel Prize winner in economics Esther Duflo, the academics Julia Cagé and Thomas Piketty, the former figure of the “yellow vests” Priscillia Ludosky, the founder of Mediapart Edwy Plenel and the president of SOS Racisme Dominique Sopo.
