33 million French people are affected by a large-scale cyberattack on complementary health insurance.

This is a large-scale hack which affects the data kept by two mutual fund managers: Viamedis and Almerys. According to the National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (Cnil), more than 33 million French people are affected. Among these stolen data, the marital status, date of birth and social security number of the insured. On the other hand, banking and medical information, health reimbursements, postal details and telephone numbers would not have been leaked.

“Be very attentive to what may happen in our email box, by text message or in instant messaging”

There Cnil is currently investigating the data breach. If you are concerned, watch out for fraudulent messages that you may receive in the coming days. “The main advice is to be very attentive to what may happen in our email inbox, by SMS or in instant messaging”, confides Gerome Billois, cybersecurity expert at Wave Stone. There Cnil specified that it is the complementary health insurance companies which will be responsible for directly informing the people affected by this hack.
