France has 33 cases “confirmed” infection with monkeypox virus, health authorities reported on Thursday (June 2). Of this total, 24 cases were reported in Ile-de-France, two in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, one in Hauts-de-France, one in Center-Val de Loire, four in Occitanie and one in Normandy, according to figures from Public Health France. This count was stopped Wednesday morning at 10 am, specifies the organization.
A new updated report will be published on Friday. The previous one, communicated on Sunday, reported 16 confirmed cases. “The situation is changing (…) very quickly”which justifies a device of “permanent monitoring” of the transmission of this virus, explained Public Health France.
The World Health Organization, however, wanted to be reassuring, saying on Monday that it did not fear for the moment that the spread of the virus beyond African countries could trigger a pandemic. Health Minister Brigitte Bourguignon also said last week that authorities did not expect a “flame” of the disease and that France had sufficient stocks of vaccines for contact cases.
