For 28 years, Sidaction has been working to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic so that no one will be touched by his injustices. Its action is based on an essential principle: bringing together research and associations, and making each of us a player in the fight.
Sidaction also finances medical and scientific research programs as associations for prevention or assistance to people living with HIV, in France and abroad.
Sidaction is the only association fighting AIDS to support research in France. In order to raise funds, the association organizes Sidaction each year, a single operation in all regions of France.
HIV/AIDS is everyone’s business
That’s the deal young peoplebecause, in France, 14% of new discoveries of seropositivity concern young people under 25 years of age.
That’s the deal of the less youngbecause 22% of those who discovered their HIV status in France are over 50 years old.
That’s the deal parentsbecause 1.7 million children worldwide are living with HIV.
That’s the deal womenbecause the AIDS virus remains the leading cause of death among women aged 15 to 49.
AIDS and Covid
The health crisis continues to weaken activities in the fight against AIDS in France and abroad: according to UNAIDS, 7.7 million deaths could be linked to AIDS between 2021 and 2030 worldwide if the coverage of prevention and treatment services is not does not evolve rapidly. The situation in Ukraine, one of the countries most affected by the HIV epidemic in Eastern Europe, could increase this risk.
In France, we observe a 14% drop in screenings since the start of the health crisis. This leads to a delay in getting people on treatment and poses a risk to their health and an increase in new infections.
Sidaction is afraid of see the virus gain ground. The fight against AIDS is in danger and the progress made before the health crisis linked to Covid-19 is being undermined.
This year, Sidaction calls for the mobilization of as many people as possible in the name of a universal value: love. HIV does not make love disappear, but through love we can make HIV disappear.
