28th murder in Montreal | Suspect accused of killing homeless man

A man in his 20s who allegedly stabbed a homeless man in September was arrested this week in Montreal. The suspect now accused of unpremeditated murder allegedly confessed everything to investigators.


It was the Major Crimes Section of the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) which conducted the investigation and arrested the suspect, Jesse John Brandon Moore. The 29-year-old man is believed to be involved in the murder that occurred on September 4 near the Place-des-Arts metro station entrance.

The alleged murderer appeared Wednesday at the Montreal courthouse. He is charged with second degree murder.

On September 4, around 10 a.m., a homeless man in his forties was found bloodied behind the entrance to the Place-des-Arts metro station, near the intersection of Jeanne-Mance and from De Maisonneuve Boulevard West.

According to initial reports, he had been stabbed. It was the 28the homicide to occur on the island of Montreal in 2023.

The SPVM had also deployed a command post in connection with this murder. Citizens who frequent the downtown area where the tragedy took place provided information to the police in order to advance the investigation, authorities explain.
