28th Francouvertes | Soleil Launière wins the Francouvertes

The 28are Francouvertes crowned Innu singer-songwriter Soleil Launière as the grand winner of the showcase competition, during an evening at Club Soda on Monday. The artist from Mashteuiatsh becomes the first indigenous person to win the grand prize.

Rapper Sensei H obtained second place and singer-songwriter Loïc Lafrance finished the competition in third place, at the end of an evening of musical performances which concluded a journey of several weeks.

The jury and the public awarded first place to Soleil Launière, a victory which notably earned her a $15,000 scholarship. The 38-year-old multidisciplinary artist combines performance art, theater and music in creations mixing French, English and Innu-aimun.

On Monday, the spokespersons of these 28are Francouvertes, Thierry Larose and Lou-Adriane Cassidy, opened the festivities with a performance, before handing over the stage to the three finalists.

The industry jury included singer-songwriters Cœur de pirate, Frannie Holder and Luis Clavis, as well as Eric Parazelli (SOCAN), Melissa Maya Falkenberg (SiriusXM), Olivier Robillard Laveaux ( ICI Musique) and Steve Marcoux (Avalanche Prod).
