Damien Letulle, who is competing in his first Para archery Games, already took part in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. Interview.
Damien Letulle repeats the same gesture 200 times a day. In his sights, the gold medal. 28 years ago, he was already aiming for it at the Atlanta Games (United States), alongside the able-bodied. “In 1997, I fell from the top of the terrace, sitting on a plastic window which broke under my weight, and I fell through five meters below, which broke my spine”he says.
After his accident, Damien Letulle put his bow away and began a slow reconstruction, and a new life project. Then came the Olympic Games in Paris. To support him in his challenge, he targeted a training center near Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) and found a coach. The athlete gave himself five years to get back to the top. At 51, he must prepare himself physically and relearn how to carry heavy loads. At home, he had targets installed at the bottom of the garden, to train… even from his living room.
