27 million Canadians watched the Olympics on CBC/Radio-Canada

CBC/Radio-Canada says 27 million viewers tuned in to watch the Paris Olympics during the 17 days of coverage on the network and its broadcast partners, including Sportsnet, TSN and RDS.


The public broadcaster said Sunday’s closing ceremony was watched by 12 million viewers on its English and French-language television networks, while the average minute audience was two million.

He said the show included CBC/Radio-Canada’s most-watched Olympic moment when 2.6 million viewers saw actor Tom Cruise jump out of a plane to deliver the Olympic flag to the 2028 host city of Los Angeles.

The second biggest moment was the end of the Canadian women’s soccer team’s quarter-final match against Germany, when 2.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the game.

According to CBC/Radio-Canada, streaming on its digital platforms totaled 24.3 million hours, an increase of 170 per cent compared to the Tokyo 2020 Games, and 121 per cent compared to the Beijing 2022 Games.

CBC/Radio-Canada said it will continue to offer free access to all Olympic events until the 2032 Games in Brisbane, Australia.
