The Beninese will be able to recover some of the royal treasures looted during colonization. Thus, these are 26 works (carved wooden doors, royal thrones, statues …) which will be transported to the economic capital of the country, Cotonou, in order to be exposed to the eyes of a public to whom they will surely have been greatly missed. In addition, the museum has been investigating for three years in order to establish a list of works acquired illegally in order to be able to return them to the countries concerned.

Promise of the start of Emmanuel Macron’s five-year term, this restitution is part of a broader desire: that of restoring to the entire African continent pieces art today preserved in France. “All young people need to appropriate the history of their country to better build their future, to recognize its power, but also the mysteries ”, thus estimated the French president who will meet his Beninese counterpart on November 9 to confirm this transfer. Today, 95% from works African women are located outside the continent where they were made.
