26 new departments on orange alert from Monday, 39 departments in a large southern half concerned in total

Météo-France is forecasting high temperatures, first in the South, which will then move up to the Northern half, at least until Thursday morning.

The heat wave will intensify on Monday, July 29. Météo-France announced on Sunday that it was placing 39 departments in a large southern half on orange heatwave alert. The departments concerned are: Ain, Allier, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Ardèche, Ariège, Aveyron, Cantal, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Cher, Corrèze, Corse-du-Sud, Haute-Corse, Dordogne, Drôme, Gard, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Gironde, Indre-et-Loire, Isère, Landes, Loire, Haute-Loire, Lot, Lot-et-Garonne, Puy-de-Dôme, Hautes-Pyrénées, Rhône, Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Deux-Sèvres, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Vaucluse, Vendée, Vienne and Haute-Vienne.

“On Monday, the heat becomes very intense in the south of the country, as temperatures generally reach 35 to 38°C, up to 40°C near the Mediterranean and the South-West, and even locally higher in the South-West. In the north of New Aquitaine, temperatures also reach 35-38°C.”specifies Météo-France.

Thirteen departments are already on orange heatwave alert for Sunday. At 3pm, Météo-France recorded temperatures of 31 to 35°C in the southwest of the country, 33 to 39°C from Gard to Var, 30 to 36 degrees in Corsica, and 28 to 33°C in the rest of the south of the country.
