Allow me to shout my anger, which helped me to hold on, during the days without electricity, during the nights without heating, during the long moments of worry and cold. I know that power outages can happen and indispose us, occasionally, for a few hours, maybe 24 hours. But in 2023, 25 years after the horror of 1998, I accuse those responsible for Hydro-Québec, and I refuse all their explanations.
We wanted to make Quebec an electricity sanctuary. So let’s take all the necessary steps to ensure that breakdowns are rare and short-lived. In addition, a so-called civilized and democratic society must provide many means of communication and information, when particular events come to interrupt the rhythm of life. We, in the Côte-des-Neiges district, no one helped or informed us. Our butcher and his companion supported and consoled us a lot. And don’t talk to me about climate change and vegetation. All this has been part of the decor for more than ten years.
My companion will soon be 77, and I will soon be 80. We are used to operating by relying on many frozen foods. We have just lost everything, and our finances are not glorious.
I therefore say, with controlled anger, that I ask the deputies and the ministers to properly bring Hydro-Québec into line and to clearly indicate that long outages will no longer be tolerated, except in the event of major events.
