Hélène Florent even managed the feat of being in the running for the Iris for best actress in a leading role thanks to her performance in drunken birdsand Maria Chapdelaine also earned her a nomination in the category of best supporting actress.

Twenty-seven feature fiction films, 14 feature documentaries, 29 short fiction films, 14 short documentaries and 13 animated shorts were evaluated over the past few weeks, for a total of 188 finalists. In all, 30 Iris prizes will be awarded at the Gala Québec Cinéma and the Gala Artisans.

The time grabber, by Francis Leclerc, is cited in 13 categories. The feature film Bootleggerby Caroline Monnet is a finalist in eight categories, as is Alineby Valerie Lemercier. Sin La Habana, by Kaveh Nabatian, distinguished himself seven times; norbourg, by Maxime Giroux, is in the running in six categories; and A revisionby Catherine Therrien, in five.

24and Gala Québec Cinéma, hosted by actress Geneviève Schmidt for a second consecutive year, will be broadcast live on June 5 on Ici Radio-Canada Télé.
