It was the first Gala Les Olivier of the “return to normal” since the arrival of the pandemic. In addition to an excellent animation by Katherine Levac, and some hilarious presentation numbers, the evening also served to crown Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais. For a second year in a row, the 28-year-old comedian is the one who received the most statuettes at this great celebration of love. PYRD notably won the two most coveted trophies of the evening: Olivier of the year and comedy show of the year. Here are five moments that we have retained from this 24th edition.

Arrows by Katherine Levac

In great shape for the animation of the gala, Katherine Levac did not hesitate to send a few arrows in her opening monologue. “I am a French-Canadian woman from the LGBTQ community. Imagine if I was still fat, they would freak out! »
The comedian ended his number by wanting to spread love. “I’m so bona fide. For example, I went to see Christian Bégin’s show. I loved. What is he trying? Let him be. »
The coronation of Roy-Desmarais

He was the most nominated comedian at the gala for a second straight year. And once again, Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais won almost everything. Including the Industry Gala, PYRD and its collaborators won four trophies on Sunday: author, director, show and Olivier of the year.
Roy-Desmarais also saw two of the projects in which he participated (Club Soly And Completely High School) leave with Olivier on Sunday.
Very moved after receiving the Olivier for the show of the year, against Sam Breton, Mathieu Dufour, Christine Morency, Arnaud Soly, Pierre-Yves cried while giving his thanks at the microphone. “It’s the most beautiful adventure that has happened to me in my life, this show. »
The “discovery” of Matthieu Pepper

Each gala, the trophy for Discovery of the Year raises our eyebrows as some of the comedians who are named there have had a career for a long time. This year was no exception with the five finalists Matthieu Pepper, Richardson Zéphir, Pascal Cameron, Michelle Desrochers and Jean-Michel Martel. Three of them were nominated in this same category last year!
It was finally Matthieu Pepper who came first in this hot fight, he who joined the general public with his series Between two sheets.
A little balm for Korine Côté

Korine Côté surely had a strange evening on Sunday. At 6:30 p.m., the comedian was eliminated from the show Big Brother Celebrities. And a few hours later, she won the Olivier for the number of the year. His two co-authors, Gabrielle Caron and Justine Philie, went to collect the prize in his absence. “Korine is not here tonight because she is no longer Big Brother for four minutes and she has a family, ”said Justine, under the cries of surprise.
Post-pandemic mood

After two rather sad “pandemic galas” hosted by François Bellefeuille, the Gala Les Olivier found its audience for the first time since December 2019.
And this return to normal has done a lot of good for this evening which is not the same in a half-empty room with distanced spectators.
The comedians, who make up the majority of the Olivier audience, are known to be a difficult audience to satisfy during this gala. But on Sunday, they reacted warmly to the presentation numbers.
