Some 245 French and foreign nationals landed early this morning at Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport from Sudan, prey to armed and deadly clashes.
For them, it’s a relief to land in Paris after 10 days of dread. “We had a week of chaos, and we can only be satisfied. It was unlikely that there would be no deaths, there are a few injured who will be fine”, explains a father evacuated from Khartoum (Sudan). The hugs at Roissy airport with their families are commensurate with the fear felt for almost two weeks. According to the government, all French people who wanted to were evacuated.
Clashes still ongoing
France also supported about fifty Europeans and Africans. An expatriate for fifteen years in the country plagued by a civil war says he is worried for his Sudanese friends. Despite the truce, clashes continue in Khartoum where the population survives without electricity or access to healthcare.
