Demand makes supply. The economic concept finds its immediate application on the occasion of the World Cup, organized in Qatar, from November 21 to December 18, 2022. Fifa has announced that it has counted 23.5 million requests during the second phase of sales, launched on April 5 and closed on Thursday April 28. A draw will decide the allocation of tickets from May 31, says Fifa.

During a first phase of sales in January, 804,186 tickets had been allocated for the World Cup while 17 million had been requested. In all, 3 million tickets are available: 2 million for sale and 1 million reserved for FIFA and its partners.

A sesame that has a cost. For spectators from abroad, the prices of individual tickets for the first round range between 62 and 200 euros for a match. For the final, it is necessary to count between 550 and 1,460 euros. A price on average 30% more expensive than at the previous World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Not enough to cool the French supporters who are among the main interested parties. “The eight most demanding countries are England, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, the United States, France, Mexico and Qatar”, the International Federation said in a statement. Argentinian fans also seem very concerned: the three group games of the Albiceleste are among the four most requested meetings.

A final phase of “last minute” sales, the dates of which are not yet known, is planned. This time, the principle of first come, first served will be applied.
