2022 will mark the revival of the Rallye Monte-Carlo for its 90ᵉ edition…and the return of the “Turini night”
A rally refocused on the Principality of Monaco, where the service park for the event will be located, on the quays of the port of Monaco, with very tough special stages, located in the two French departments of Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes- of Haute-Provence.
In total, 296 km of timed course. new features in the breakdown of the 17 specials, and the return of the mythical “Nuit de Turini”.
We will find the emblematic timed sectors such as Luceram-Lantosque(15.20km) or the Penne – Collongues(19.37). The Col de Turini will be present at the start of the event, whereas it was reserved rather for the end in previous editions. It should be noted that the crews will come up against the new roads laid out in the north of the Alpes-Maritimes department, which look particularly demanding.
A renewal also on the technical side with important innovations
Hybrid cars…
Indeed, and for the first time hybrid cars will participate in the race. Fitted with an additional 100 kW (136 hp) battery, which will allow them to drive in purely electric mode and provide extra power during special stages, like Sébastien Ogier’s Toyota Yaris:
and synthetic fuel!
Another revolution, after electrification, is in the tank with the use of synthetic fuel, supplied for the exclusive distributor of the Fédération Internationale Automobile.
Indeed, the fuel, a product combining Co2 in the atmosphere and synthetic hydrogen, derived from water and produced with electricity from renewable energy sources (photovoltaic, wind turbines among others)
Details of the Steps
Thursday January 20
the Start Ceremony will take place on the Place du Casino, from 6:45 p.m. and will precede two special night stages between Vésubie and Bévéra, with “Luceram / Col Saint-Roch / Lantosque” and “La Bollène-Vésubie / Col de Turini / Moulinet” traditional events which represent around forty kilometres.
Friday January 21
the competitors will head further north of the Alpes-Maritimes with three special stages taking place between Var and Tinée in the morning, followed by a second passage in the afternoon, interspersed with a regrouping park and a change of tires in Puget-Théniers. “Roure / Beuil”, “Pierlas / Ilonse”, “La Tour-sur-Tinée / Utelle”, each total around twenty kilometers, which will make this Friday the busiest day of the Rally with 120 km of ES.
Saturday January 22
Competitors will have to go as far as Digne-les-Bains and also complete three events that day, only two of which will be repeated in the afternoon: the Col de la Colle Saint-Michel between Le Fugeret and Thorame-Haute at the start of day. They will then pass through Saint-Jeannet to Malijai, and finally pass through Sisteron to climb to Saint-Geniez and descend to Thoard in a shortened version of this long mythical event.
Return to Digne-les-Bains with regrouping park and change of tyres, then descent to Monaco without repeating the passage of Colle Saint-Michel.
Sunday January 23
Twice two events will remain to be contested, without going through the service park, or changing tires after the start in Monaco. It will be “La Penne / Collongues”, via Saint-Antonin and “Briançonnet / Entrevaux”, which will act as the Power Stage and will perhaps determine the final winner of this 90ᵉ edition.
