The demonstrations over the weekend of June 15 and 16 against the far right raise important security issues. 21,000 police officers and gendarmes will be mobilized.
Tense face-to-face confrontations between demonstrators and the police took place on Monday June 10 in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). Similar violence is feared during the demonstrations on June 15 and 16. In Lyon (Rhône), Friday June 14, four people were injured, including three police officers. This weekend, the Paris region will be the most monitored: between 50,000 and 100,000 people are expected. The demonstration must start from Place de la République to reach Place de la Nation via Place de la Bastille.
To avoid possible violence, a large police force was deployed. “We are quite worried because the intelligence services are expecting disruptors”, explains Alex Ronde, spokesperson for the CFTC-police union. In total, 21,000 police officers and gendarmes were mobilized to supervise the demonstrations.
