At the end of the year, here are my wishes for the four main political parties in Quebec, as we enter 2024.
Coalition Avenir Québec
François Legault jokingly asked for a compass for Christmas during his parliamentary session review. We wish him a big one in addition to finding meaning in his 2e mandate.
The year 2024 will be difficult for many people, we hope for a humanist PM who takes care of his world. Incomprehensible decisions like the underfunding of food banks, Accueil Bonneau and home care are intolerable and must stop.
Quebec Party
A year and a half ago, the PQ had 8% support among the population. The honesty, convictions and quiet charisma of PSPP have won over Quebecers so much so that the PQ find themselves at the top of voting intentions to end 2023.
We wish the PQ to remain humble and focused on the essentials, the country’s project, Quebec culture and good governance. Three years before the elections, it will be difficult for star candidates to commit, but we hope they will surround themselves with experienced people.
Solidarity Quebec
We hope that Québec solidaire will find the recipe for the magic potion that will make them break through in the regions and among those aged 55 and over. In fact, QS only obtains 6% support in this age group.
We hope at QS that Émilise Lessard-Thérrien finds her place to succeed the great Manon Massé. For a feminist party, this starts with paying it properly.
Liberal Party of Quebec
The PLQ is taking quite a gamble by banking on André Pratte, new president of their political commission, to rebuild their virginity. A fervent federalist editorialist, he without nuance defended the PLQ from the era of liberal corruption and austerity. We can also question our understanding of Quebec identity.
We hope the PLQ understands that Quebec has the right to defend its language and secularism with strength and pride. That it is legitimate to have concerns about mass immigration, while being an open and welcoming people.
