2024 presidential election | Trump will not concede possible defeat, says Biden

(Washington) US President Joe Biden estimated, in an interview published Monday, that his Republican rival Donald Trump would “contest” the result of the November presidential election if he were to lose.

“I think he will do everything to win. If I win — when I win — I think he will contest the result,” said the 81-year-old Democrat during an interview in January with a journalist from the weekly New Yorker.

“I’m the only one who ever beat him.” And I’m going to beat him again,” Joe Biden said again.

“If you thought you were best placed to defeat someone who, if victorious, would change the very nature of the United States, what would you do? » asked the Democrat, who has always believed that he was the best possible candidate against Donald Trump.

The American president is however unpopular, his age is a major concern for voters, and several recent polls give the advantage to his Republican predecessor in terms of voting intentions.

Joe Biden, however, is betting that the central message of his campaign, that of the defense of democracy and civil peace, will end up being carried.

“How can we, in a democracy, elect someone president who says violence is acceptable? » he declared in the interview with New Yorker.

The president also criticizes the attitude of the press, which according to him, does not appreciate the authoritarian threat represented by Donald Trump, the big favorite in the Republican primary.

“It’s as if you’ve all become numb to it,” he reproached.
