Updated for 2022, the Toyota Corolla gets updated safety features and a wide model range.
Here are five things to know about the 2022 Toyota Corolla sedan.
Three engines
Entry-level models of the Toyota Corolla are powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. The fuel consumption rating varies between 6.8 and 7.4 L/100 km depending on the transmission chosen.
The more luxurious versions use a block with a larger displacement. Indeed, the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter develops 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Just like the previous engine, the customer can opt for a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT box. Fuel consumption varies between 6.8 and 7.6 L/100 km.
Finally, the hybrid version pairs a 1.8L engine with a 71 horsepower permanent magnet electric motor. Total power is 121 horsepower. At the pump, this Corolla only drinks 4.5 L/100 km.
Standard Apple and Android apps
As standard, the multimedia system offers compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications. The touch screen in the center of the console measures seven or eight inches, depending on the version.
Inductive charging for mobile phones and a high-fidelity audio system are among the options.
At the command post, the driver is served by a 4.2-inch monitor. Full-digital seven-inch instrumentation is optional.
Standard active safety
When it comes to safety, the 2022 Toyota Corolla holds the distinction Top Safety Pick from the American organization Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In addition, the car has eight airbags.
Regarding driver assistance systems, the Corolla employs the following Toyota SafetySense 2.0 (TSS 2.0). It includes: the lane departure warning system with lane keeping assistance, the automatic emergency braking system with the pedestrian and cyclist detection system and finally, the adaptive cruise control.
New this year, all versions of the Corolla are equipped with an additional safety device which guarantees that the taillights are on when the vehicle is in motion.
Two limited editions
Among the multiplicity of possible variations, Toyota offers two limited editions, both equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.
The Corolla Apex relies on a dynamic look to show off. It features several elements painted black: the 18-inch aluminum rims, the spoiler as well as some emblems affixed to the bodywork. From a mechanical point of view, the car has a performance-tuned suspension and a sports exhaust. Finally, it can be equipped with an automatic or manual transmission.
As its name suggests, the Corolla Nightshade sports several black painted finishing touches. This is the case for the 18-inch alloy wheels, mirror covers, exterior door handles, front spoiler, spoiler, side sills and certain logos. Moreover, this version only uses a CVT transmission.
Choice of 15 models
You read that right, the Toyota Corolla comes in 15 models. The “L-series” is offered with the 1.8-litre engine, while the “S-series” is fitted with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder. Two hybrid versions are also available.
