Hyundai and performance car enthusiasts who have been eagerly awaiting pricing for the brand’s new N models can now do their math.
Let’s start with the 2022 Elantra N sedan, whose turbocharged 2.0-liter engine generates 276 horsepower (10 more temporarily with “N Grin Shift”) and 289 lb-ft of torque. It starts at $ 37,199 with the six-speed manual transmission and $ 38,799 with the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. In addition, there are freight and preparation costs of $ 1,725.
In each case, there is an electronic limited-slip differential, a sport exhaust with two tips, a raised rear spoiler, exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires with a width of 245 millimeters, a suspension with new generation electronic control as well as various frame reinforcements. That’s not to mention the sports seats and the digital display adapted to the interior.
The Hyundai Elantra N will compete directly with the completely redesigned 2022 Subaru WRX with 271 horsepower, the price of which is not yet known (the 2021 model was selling from $ 29,995). However, it is limited to traction, while its Japanese rival has all-wheel drive. Its price also positions it between the Volkswagen Jetta GLI of 228 horsepower (from $ 31,595) and the future Honda Civic Type R 2023 of more than 300 horsepower.
Do you prefer a tailgate instead of a classic trunk? The 2022 Hyundai Kona N subcompact SUV is priced at $ 39,999, plus freight and delivery charges of $ 1,825.
Powered by the same engine as the Elantra N and also available only with two-wheel drive, the most explosive Kona is content with the dual-clutch transmission. The recipe is similar: electronic limited-slip differential, sports exhaust, special 19-inch wheels, Pirelli P Zero (235 / 40R19) tires, chassis reinforcements, high-performance brakes and so on.
By the way, Hyundai compares the driving experience of the Kona N to a video game. The driver has access to data such as lap times and the position of the vehicle on a circuit, the exclusive head-up display evokes the race, while N buttons on the steering wheel allow to switch between programmed modes.
The Hyundai Kona N rises above the Volkswagen Golf GTI (front-wheel drive) and Mazda3 Sport Turbo / CX-30 Turbo (all-wheel drive) in terms of performance and price. The first starts at $ 31,495 for 2022 and develops 241 horsepower, while the other two are around $ 35,000 and offer up to 250 horsepower.
