The Governor General’s Awards Foundation announced Wednesday afternoon the winners of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for 2022. A coveted award that honors artists whose achievements have enriched the cultural life of Canada and shined abroad foreigner.

Among the award-winning Quebec creators, the Foundation honors director and screenwriter Fernand Dansereau, a pioneer of cinema and television in the country. And also, Linda Rabin, another pioneer, this time in the field of dance. Mme Rabin is co-founder and former director of the Montreal School of Contemporary Dance. She has over 50 years of experience as a dancer, teacher and choreographer.
The other winners are Indigenous writer Tomson Highway, composer David Foster and choreographer Crystal Pite. The Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Volunteering in the Performing Arts is given to Michelle Smith for her commitment and support to a large number of Francophone community and arts organizations in her home province of Manitoba.
The Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards will be presented to artists on May 28, during a gala evening at the National Arts Center (NAC) in Ottawa.
