The Director General of Elections of Quebec (DGEQ) alleges that political parties committed 78 infractions regarding the placement of posters during last fall’s general elections. The problems were so numerous that they represented “significant issues in terms of public safety and respect for road signs”.

Each charge carries a minimum fine of $500 upon conviction or guilty plea.

“This is the first time that the Chief Electoral Officer has initiated proceedings for electoral signage violations,” the organization indicated. “She hopes that this decision will have a deterrent effect and encourage political parties to respect the rules in the next provincial elections. »
