After the reception, from September 7 to 10, of Catherine Major’s opera adapted fromAlbertine in five times, by Michel Tremblay, the Rideau Vert will officially launch its season on September 27 with The son. This play by Florian Zeller, prolific French author and director (The Father), will be directed by René Richard Cyr and will star Vincent-Guillaume Otis. The latter is back on the boards after a break of five years for the television adventure of District 31. The young Émile Ouellette, graduating from the National Theater School of Canada, will play the role of his son.
The season will end in May-June 2023 with a bang: the return of Pierre Bernard, who has not directed since 2012 (good people at Duceppe). “For me, it’s more the taste of closing the loop than making a comeback,” said Pierre Bernard in an interview with The Press. Now, if that happens, it’s thanks to the tenacity of Denise Filiatrault. For 10 years, I said no to everything that was offered to me at the theater, but Denise kept coming back with Star trails by Cindy Lou Johnson. I ended up accepting because of his perseverance, but also because I still love this piece so much, and with the same momentum as I had in 1992.
Pierre Bernard will direct Mylène Mackay and Émile Schneider. Two actors “inspiring, whole and who have access to their emotional home to play this fable on uprooting and inner wandering”, according to him. “As for Luc Picard and Sylvie Drapeau at the time, they are young performers who are totally invested in their art. I have immense respect for them”, says the director and ex-director of the Théâtre de Quat’Sous.
And also in season…
Between these two productions, the Rideau Vert will present Pif-Glossya new dramatic comedy by Gabriel Sabourin, inspired by the life and success of the author of Cyrano de Bergeracwith Olivier Morin; A dollhouse 2and part, a suite and variation around Ibsen’s classic, imagined by the American Lucas Hnath, under the direction of Marie-France Lambert, with Macha Limonchik in the role of Nora; and Reviewed and corrected, the traditional show celebrations, again with script-editor Luc Michaud, director Natalie Lecompte, and new actors joining veterans Benoît Paquette and Marc St-Martin.
Finally, Erika Malot, artistic development coordinator, announced the launch of a universal accessibility program with new measures giving access to four shows to the deaf, blind and visually impaired communities.
