Robert Lepage unveiled Tuesday the programming for the 2022 season of the Le Diamant theater, of which he is the artistic director. A season comprising a dozen shows at the crossroads of disciplines and artistic languages. Circus, dance, theater and multidisciplinary arts (not to mention wrestling with two galas) will be on the agenda next fall. The artistic direction of this theater in Old Quebec is therefore based on discovery and eclecticism.

The activities will begin on September 17 with the revival of the show-river by Lepage and Ex Machina, The Seven Branches of the Ota River. Will follow from October 15 to 17, NYX, a circus show created by choreographer and dancer Johanne Madore with the Chimère collective. In addition, the artists of the contemporary circus company of Quebec, Flip Fabrique, will offer Muse in December.
On the theater side, two revivals of critically acclaimed plays will be on view: The fury of what I think, a collage of texts by Nelly Arcan, designed and directed by Marie Brassard, with Sophie Cadieux and Julie Le Breton, among others (from December 8 to 10); then Becoming Chelsea, Sébastien Harrisson’s play about activist Chelsea Manning. Éric Jean directs and Sébastien René plays the title role (from October 27 to 29).
In November, the Toronto company Why Not Theater will present its production Prince Hamlet, a re-reading of Shakespeare’s classic (in English with French surtitles). Also in November, the National Ballet of Canada’s principal dancer, Guillaume Côté, will be in the nation’s capital with his company, Côté Danse, to present Crypto. A work where dance is associated with theater and digital arts.
