Faced with an immigration law that “profoundly attacks the values of the Republic”, the general secretary of the CFDT, Marylise Léon, called on Sunday January 7 in “Political Questions” on France Inter, to “a citizens’ march on January 21”. This “citizens’ march” will be organized in Paris, but also throughout France.
“We’re making a call.”written by “200 personalities” who are union and association leaders, added Marylise Léon. The appeal is signed by 201 personalities from the world of culture, associations and even unions, from Sophie Binet (CGT) to the former Defender of Rights Jacques Toubon, including the actresses Josiane Balasko, Marina Foïs and Fabien Roussel (PCF). ). The text will be published Sunday afternoon, “to be able to demonstrate against this law that we have described as ‘loss of fraternity’“. Marylise Léon makes it clear that this call for a citizens’ march is not organized by the CFDT. “All the signatories are not in the name of their organization. I sign as general secretary of the CFDT, but it is Marylise Léon who is committed and who makes this call.”
The idea is that as many citizens as possible who want to challenge this law can do so within the framework that will be offered to them.

This citizens’ march, the representative of the CFDT is participating “because it is an important moment in the political history of this country.” Marylise Léon assures us: “We are at a turning point.” The union leader sees in this immigration law a flood of political proposals which come from “extreme right ideas”adopted by Parliament to result in a law “which completely denies the humanist values that we can defend.”
To defend its bill, the government has repeatedly repeated, supported by polls, that this text was demanded by the French. “I remind you that a very large majority of French people were against” retirement at 64 “and I am surprised that at that moment, he did not listen to us”, retorts the general secretary of the CFDT. On December 22, franceinfo revealed the plan for a large gathering which was being prepared to denounce the immigration law, at the initiative of the CGT. Two dates were brought forward: Sunday January 14 or January 21.
