The air assets resumed their rotation, Thursday January 4 in the morning, above a maquis still prey to flames like in the middle of summer. Filmed by residents, the immense column of smoke extends to the southern district of Bastia. To combat the fire, firefighters set up firebreaks all along the main road. Fanned by gusts of more than 230 km/h, the flames have already destroyed more than 200 hectares of vegetation. A relentless struggle since Wednesday January 3.
Fire now contained
For land resources, operations are delicate, their progress takes place in the middle of thick smoke. All night, the firefighters remained engaged, trying to put out the many fires that were still very active. After gaining momentum again Thursday morning, the disaster is now announced as contained. No homes are threatened.
