200 bodies exhumed from mass graves at Nasser hospital, Gaza official says

The civil defense of the Gaza Strip told AFP on Monday that it had exhumed over the last three days around 200 bodies of people killed and buried by Israeli forces in mass graves inside the Nasser hospital in Khan Younes.

“Our teams continue to find bodies within the Nasser Medical Complex and since Saturday the bodies of around 200 martyrs have been exhumed,” said Mahmoud Bassal, a Civil Defense spokesperson.

Asked by AFP, the Israeli army did not react immediately.

Mohammed al-Mughayer, a leader of the Civil Defense of the Gaza Strip, for his part told AFP that a total of 283 bodies had been discovered in the graves of the Nasser hospital.

“So far, we have found the buried bodies of 283 people, killed in cold blood by the Israeli occupying army,” Ismail al-Thawabteh, head of the government’s communications department, also told AFP. Hamas, in power in Gaza.

Hospitals in the Gaza Strip have been harshly targeted during the military operation carried out by the Israeli army in the Palestinian territory since the attack perpetrated in Israel on October 7 by Hamas fighters.

In response to the October 7 attack, Israel launched a large-scale military operation against the Gaza Strip with the stated objective of annihilating Hamas there. So far, six months of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have left 34,151 people dead, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health.

The attack by the Palestinian movement in Israel left 1,170 dead, mainly civilians, according to a count carried out by AFP based on official Israeli data. Around 250 people were also taken hostage to Gaza and 129 are still there, among whom 34 are considered dead by the Israeli army.
