20% of cases are linked to Omicron in Quebec

Nearly one in five cases of COVID-19 is linked to the Omicron variant in Quebec. This is what the first results of the screening carried out by the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ) reveal on the cases declared Tuesday.

The INSPQ investigation, made public Thursday, indicates that 101 infections, out of 523 screened, were generated by Omicron.

The INSPQ is continuing its analysis. Quebec recorded 1,747 new cases on Tuesday and Quebec’s national director of public health, Dr Horacio Arruda, asked that they all be screened.

So far, 13 cases of the Omicron variant have been officially confirmed in the province.
