2-year-old girl hit by car

A two-year-old girl was hit by a motorist in Montreal on Wednesday morning and succumbed to her injuries.

The accident occurred at the intersection of avenue des Récollets and rue Fleury Est, in the borough of Montreal-Nord, around 9 a.m.

A pedestrian with a stroller was crossing the intersection when a motorist who was making a turn grabbed them, explains the spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Mariane Allaire Morin.

“The stroller was dragged several meters, so the victim, a 2-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital,” added the spokesperson.

The mother sustained minor lower body injuries and was treated by paramedics.

The scene was still protected late Wednesday morning to allow investigators to analyze the scene.
