Meghan launches into lobbying
A former actress and committed personality, she and her husband founded the Archewell Foundation, and she has every intention of influencing the public debate. So on October 20, she sent a letter to Charles Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, in the Senate and in the House of Representatives, to tell them about her new baby: parental leave.
“I am not a chosen one, and I am not a politician“she wrote. “I am, like many, an engaged citizen and parent. And because you and your fellow Congressmen have a role to play in shaping family outcomes for generations to come, that’s why I am writing to you at this extremely important moment – as a mom – advocating for paid time off“.
A few weeks later, two Republican senators, Susan Collins and Shelley Moore Capito, are already complaining about Meghan Markle for having imposed herself on her. According to Politico, the Duchess of Sussex would have “put pressure” on them, in order to defend her project.
An icy welcome
The first, Shelley Moore Capito, (Senator from West Virginia) said: “I am in my car. I drive. Caller ID is blocked. Honestly … I thought it was Senator Manchin. His calls are blocked.
