According to ANSM data dating from the end of October, which franceinfo was able to consult on Friday December 1, only 2.5% of 5th grade middle school students were vaccinated against papillomaviruses. This figure, which is therefore an intermediate result, is far from the 30% wanted by the government for this first middle school vaccination campaign.

The vaccination campaign began in September and continued in November. Soon the first injections will be finished. The second dose should then be administered six months later and before the end of the school year. The vaccine helps prevent papillomaviruses which can then give rise to certain cancers, including cervical cancer.

In its monitoring point on the vaccination campaign, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM), counted 20,000 5th grade students having received a first injection of the papillomavirus vaccine at the end of October. Out of 800,000 students enrolled in 5th grade, that’s 2.5%.

No new risks identified

According to this first assessment, the ANSM has not identified any new risks linked to the vaccine, as part of this national vaccination campaign for fifth grade students against the papillomavirus.

In its situation update, the ANSM specifies that between September 14 and the end of October, “seven cases of adverse events have been reported following vaccination with Gardasil 9″. Four cases were linked to a vaccination carried out as part of the campaign in colleges, the others concerned vaccinations carried out in town. Among these seven cases, “three serious cases were reported (discomfort or allergic reaction)”. Two people have now recovered. The third, however, died. It was the teenager vaccinated in Saint-Herblain, near Nantes (Loire-Atlantique). At the end of October, the prosecutor confirmed that the death of this 12-year-old 5th grade student had been caused following head trauma following discomfort with loss of consciousness.
