Egbert Gaye, journalist and editor of the community newspaper Community Contactdied at the age of 67 following a heart attack, report several English-language media.
Mr. Gaye led Community Contact since he founded it in 1992. During all these years, the newspaper has been able to give a voice to the black English-speaking communities of Montreal while allowing recruits to make their debut in the journalistic world.
He was also a regular contributor to the newspaper Montreal Gazette as well as the CJAD radio station.
Many people paid tribute to him on social media on Monday when they learned of his passing.
“Thank you for having been the voice of the black communities of Montreal for years”, wrote in particular the mayor of Montreal, Valerie Planteon his Twitter account.
