19-year-old man dies in new ‘narco-homicide’

A 19-year-old man was shot during the night from Wednesday to Thursday in a social housing group in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille, a city known for housing drug dealing points.

Shootings took place late on Wednesday evening in the Les Iris housing estate, on Avenue Georges Braque, in the Saint-Barthélémy district, in the 14th arrondissement of the city, the Marseille marine firefighters battalion told France 3 Provence-Alpes on Thursday, July 11, confirming information from Provence. The incident took place around 10:15 p.m.

The victim, injured by bullets, is 19 years old, according to the firefighters. She was rushed to hospital for medical treatment, with a life-threatening prognosis, specifies the BMPM. The young man, who had an impact on the thorax and another on the abdomen, was declared dead in the operating room, after cardiac massage, according to a police source.

The young man targeted by this shooting is known to the police for delinquency, including drug use. A burning vehicle was found, according to the same police source. An investigation has been opened and has been entrusted to the judicial police. If the link with drug trafficking is confirmed, according to the prosecution’s count, this is the seventh “narco-homicide” committed in Marseille since the beginning of the year. A figure that remains well below the 24 deaths linked to drug trafficking recorded last year at the same time.

The small city of two hundred homes in the northern districts has long been known for housing drug dealing points. In 2008, a 19-year-old man was beaten to death by dealers.
