A disease whose name is not common. However, Hirschsprung’s disease can affect anyone. The YouTuber Carlito
and his partner Erika Fleury are proof of this. Parents of three children, their youngest, aged 10 months, suffers from this disease. Agathe Lecaron
went to meet them to get information about this illness and find out how they reacted when the diagnosis came. A moment shared on his Instagram account this Friday, December 8, 2023.
“It’s a colon disease. Part of the colon is not innervated. It prevents stool from coming out. So it’s very dangerous”first indicated Erika Fleury before continuing: “There can be a small part, which is a short form. So there can be a long form and a total form. This is much more serious”. In their misfortune, the couple’s baby suffers from “short form”. But how did the couple discover this disease. Erika Fleury says she was alerted when her child stopped eating and did not wake up to take his bottle. “So I call Raph to tell him ‘I think his stomach is swollen, what do you think?’ We go to the emergency room and I saw him in a state… I don’t recognize him . They took an X-ray of the intestine. They called a doctor and we went to Trousseau hospital.”she remembered.

Carlito ‘relieved’ after putting a name to his son’s illness
A surgeon immediately had a suspicion and mentioned the name Hirschsprung. When they arrived at the hospital, the doctors carried out a probe. A “hose in the anus, like an enema”. “And there, almost in the middle of the probe rise, he wakes up. He opens his eyes and smiles at us. In fact, it’s almost as if they had resuscitated him”, remembers the YouTuber’s companion. Several examinations followed to confirm the disease. The doctor then confirmed the diagnosis allowing Carlito to feel “relieved” because the diagnosis has been made.
This allowed the couple to talk about it publicly and receive many messages of support and testimonies “people who have had children affected by this disease or who have had it”. Their 10-month-old child had 19cm of colon removed during an operation that lasted around 7 hours. Today the baby “is fine” and his parents hope “total recovery at 10 years”.
