Six hours of deliberation to impose a heavy sentence, 18 years in prison against Salim Berrada, a verdict close to the 19 years of criminal imprisonment required. The ‘Tinder rapist’ has been convicted of twelve rapes and three sexual assaults. “I think it is a good judgment which gave satisfaction to the victims who waited for eight years. It is good justice which, I believe, will send a positive message to those who do not dare to push the door open. ‘a police station thinking that they will not be believed’, testifies Maître Véronique Boulay, the lawyer of one of the victims. According to her, “Salim Berrada’s defense convinced no one”.
Insistent offers of alcohol
Salim Berrada, however, was acquitted in two other cases due to lack of evidence. The 38-year-old ex-photographer lured numerous women to his home between 2014 and 2016 using dating applications. He insisted on offering them photo shoots and alcohol. Some victims claim to have been drugged before being assaulted or raped. Salim Berrada has continued to claim that these relationships were consensual. “I never wanted to hurt anyone.”, said the accused. Salim Berrada, of Moroccan nationality, will have to leave the territory once his sentence has been served. He has ten days to appeal the decision.
