18 kg of cannabis discovered in an apartment rented via Airbnb in Toulon

This is a trend that is being confirmed for drug traffickers: the use of apartments rented via the Airbnb platform to store their goods. The Anti-Crime Brigade indeed discovered this Tuesday evening 18 kilos of cannabis (resin and grass) stored in an apartment ofa residential area west of Toulon. Two people, two young women aged 22 and 24, were arrested. The Departmental Security is continuing the investigations.

Having recourse to an apartment rented outside the city has advantages. This makes it possible to put distance with possible competitors who might want to recover the goods. But it also keeps the eyes of the police away who do not relax the pressure put on the neighborhoods to fight against drug trafficking. Finally, it is rather discreet because there is not necessarily any physical contact between landlord and tenant.

The traffickers therefore continue to adapt. These apartments rented in Airbnb, a few tens of euros per day, therefore serve as a temporary fallback point to receive relatively large quantities, cut them and then dispatch them quietly to the various points of sale.

Except that if traffickers innovate, the police have an eye. And the Bac identifies in this district “individuals rather unfavorably known”. From very discreet surveillance to checks, the police are certain that these comings and goings in this sector are not trivial. The operation is launched this Tuesday evening and therefore leads to the seizure of 18 kilos of drugs.
