Storm Ciaran: 176,000 homes still without electricity
Storm Ciaran: 176,000 homes are still without electricity – (France 2)
Saturday November 4, 176,000 homes are still without electricity after the passage of storm Ciaran. Enedis employees continue to intervene, despite sometimes difficult conditions.
The tractor engine is the only source of electricity on a farm in Plourac’h (Côtes-d’Armor). The emergency in the morning is to feed the milking machine, to extract the milk from the cows before throwing it away, because there is no longer a fridge. Production is at a standstill, and it is impossible to keep the henhouse running. “One day this may hold. Three or four is unbearable. Morally, we think about so many things that the days are very long”explains Matthieu Lozac’h, breeder.
Landfill work
A little further on, not a single light works in Plounevez-Quintin, (Côtes-d’Armor). The heart of the village, its bistro, is at a standstill. His manager came to see the damage. A banquet was to be held on Saturday, November 4, but it was canceled due to the storm. “In 2023, we should not experience this”, he says. Burying power lines is a costly solution to implement. After the storm of 1999, major investments were announced, but the transformation was not fast enough.
