A 17-year-old young man died on Monday after falling more than 40 meters in a quarry in Sainte-Florence, in Vendée, reports France Bleu Loire Océan.

The accident took place Monday afternoon at the Lombardières quarry, at the crossroads of the A83 and A87 motorways, northeast of La Roche-sur-Yon. The teenager was driving a machine pulling a water tank when he fell between 40 and 50 meters. Found at the foot of the quarry, he was declared dead by the SMUR doctor.

Eiffage, the owner of the quarry, affirms in a press release obtained by France Bleu Loire Océan, that a “a psychological support unit was quickly set up to support the site teams as well as the family” of the victim.
