The 17-year-old teenager who was targeted by gunfire Thursday evening in the borough of Plateau-Mont-Royal, in Montreal, finally succumbed to his injuries.
This is the first homicide of the year to occur on the territory of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
The shooting was reported to the authorities around 6:50 p.m., when the teenager was hit in the upper body by a firearm projectile at the intersection of Rivard and Roy Est streets.
He was conscious when he was found by the police.
The victim was transported in critical condition to a hospital where he was pronounced dead later that night.
“We have had confirmation that the victim is dead,” said Montreal police spokesperson Véronique Comtois.

The suspect or suspects would have fled on foot after their crime.
No arrests have been made, said Constable Comtois.
The investigation was transferred to the SPVM’s major crimes squad, whose investigators were at the scene of the tragedy to gather evidence.
They will be assisted by a forensic identification technician and dog handlers to analyze the scene protected by a security perimeter.
